Project Restore: Historic All Saints

Construction Update - November 2008

Construction crews have successfully hoisted the drum of the dome to the top of Historic All Saints. The drum was placed on the original steel beams of the historic building on a beautiful fall day October 29, 2008. Numerous meetings were held to plan the event using a 160 foot crane to lift the 24,000 pound drum which was 22 feet in height and a diameter of 33 feet. Workers will now begin constructing the dome which is 13 feet in height and a diameter of 33 feet.

The covering of the dome will be made of solid copper just as the original. This will take approximately 5 weeks and should be ready to hoist the first week of December. While this part of the project is being done workers will begin to build the roof which will be connected to the drum of the dome.

This is a monumental event for Project Restore and the community of Stuart. The people of this town are so excited to once again see the dome of their landmark in the Stuart skyline.

We are in need of additional funds to incorporate an elevator for handicap accessibility, concrete work for sidewalks and parking, copper to cover the dome and (GFRC) glass-fiber reinforced concrete to replicate stones and detailing on the drum of the dome.
